Our Easter raffle raising money for the Oxford Children's Hospital was a cracking success - with an eggs-cellent £170 raised.

The draw, held on the morning of March 23rd at Sainsbury's Didcot, in this raffle organised by the store's Lee Crook, saw a staggering 26 Easter eggs donated and with that 26 lucky winners bagging a delightful chocolate surprise.

The raffle which has run for this past month was held to support funds for the Children's Hospital at the John Radcliffe Hospital.
Funds raised go towards all areas of children's medical care at the  Oxford hospital from the purchase of specialised medical equipment above and beyond the NHS standard, to upgrading of medical equipment, to toys to sensory to distraction items for children undergoing painful procedures to artwork that brightens up a children's room or area, any aspect that makes a difference and brightens up the child and their families stay just that little bit more.   Even additional parent beds have been purchased through public fundraising for the Oxford Children's Hospital in the past.

Thanks to all the eggs-totally brilliant supporters who brought raffle tickets, and has edged Play2Give nearer to our goal of raising £40,000 for the hospital where we are now just £3,415 off from achieving this very special target to sponsor our own room on the Melanie's teenage ward.

Kicking off 2016 with a football match full of heroes

PictureAndrew Baker with The P2G Cup which was won by Headway Heroes 4-3
This year we hope to achieve our £40,000 fundraising goal for the Oxford Children's Hospital, and with our football match at the weekend, we are edging closer to our very special target, as well as topping up our funds for our friends at Headway.

Saturday evening (March 19th) saw our second charity football match take to the pitch at Oxford City Football Club for an exciting, thrilling clash of the footballing titans which saw a team of P2G Stars take on a team of Headway Heroes in the nail-biting 90-minute game at the home of Court Place Farm - one of Play2Give's longest serving and loyal supporters of many years.

The match was raising money for the Children's Hospital as well as Headway Oxfordshire - the wonderful brain injury support charity based in Kennington - which supports over 400 brain injured survivors and their carers.

Speaking to the Oxford Mail pitch-side, Claire Twinn, Headway Oxfordshire's service manager, said: "It's been brilliant to see so many people come out to support us, I am always impressed that they are willing to give their time up.
She added: "We are increasingly relying on fundraising now that we get less money from local authorities, so events like this are really wonderful."

In September, 2014, we first held our annual match for the charities when P2G Stars won 20-1 against a team of staff from Sainsbury's Didcot. However, this year's champions emerged 4-3 seeing Headway charity team lift the cup to victory by the end of the game, a tense match all round.

This event is just the start to our fundraising year in which after our most successful record year in 2015 that saw Play2Give donate over £13,530 to our selected charities, we hope we will raise many more thousands of pounds, and, hopefully achieve our very special £40,000 goal to name Play2Give's own room on the teenage ward at the Oxford Children's Hospital.  We are now just £3,500 away from our goal.

We plan to hold another football match in 2017 when we hope to reclaim back as a team the P2G Cup against next year's opponents.

We would like to say a huge thank you to Oxford City Football Club for generously hosting and donating the pitch, to all the supporters and players, and also to Matthew Crook and Stuart Crook, brothers from Oxford, who helped to organise the P2G Stars team.

New Year comes fresh new fundraising year

PictureSuper balls! Some of the P2G team including Andrew, front (with balls), and sponsors and supporters at the Children's Hospital in January.
As 2016 ticks on so does a fresh new year for Play2Give as its fundraising drives doesn't stop and the next few months are already looking promising with lots of events and activity goings on after our most successful year ever in 2015.

2015 saw us as a fundraising organisation raise the most ever with £13,532 distributed to three local charities - Oxford Children's Hospital benefited from a record £9,439 alone last year.

Our fundraising year kicks off with a special football match host by Oxford City Football Club on Saturday (19th March) which will see two sides compete against each other in the clash of the football titans to see who will come out on top to win the coveted P2G Cup.

Proceeds from Saturday's fun friendly 90-minute match at the football club near the John Radcliffe Hospital will be donated to Headway Oxfordshireand the Children's Hospital.   In September 2014 a P2G squad took on a team of staff from Didcot's Sainsbury's in the first ever P2G Match but unfortunately for Sainsbury's it was a case of sour grapes and lemons as our side beat them 20-1 and claimed The P2G Cup.

This year's P2G Stars are eager to retain the cup for a second time, and this time will be taking on much more (hopefully) exciting competition in the form of a team made up of charity representatives and supporters from the Headway charity in  Kennington, Oxford - aptly called Headway Heroes.

This fundraising match we hope will net as much as £300 if not more into our fundraising coffers, and all the action kicks off at 5pm on the 3G Arena pitch.  Spectators are most welcome to cheer on the sides.

Play2Give has been raising money for Oxfordshire charities since 2007, and over £45,940 has been donated - with over £36,410 of this donated to the Children's Hospital.  We have a target of £40,000 to raise in total for the Children's Hospital (CHOX) in which to have our very own named room on the teenage ward at the hospital - we just £3,585 away from this very special goal.   Hopefully Saturday's match and our other endeavours this year will edge us closer to achieving this landmark total.    Whilst we have given  Headway £1,850 since 2014 through various fundraising methods, including book sales, fundraising parties, a team in the Monster race last year and part of proceeds raised by a superheroes spinathon last September.

Speaking on behalf of  Headway, the charity's events and publicity manager Charlie Hayes said: "We all have a special place in our hearts for Play2Give and all the amazing fundraising it has done over the years for its charities including for us at Headway Oxfordshire.
"Andy Baker's tireless support for us means a huge amount to all of us and we would also like to thank Oxford City FC for supporting this event."

Our other upcoming events including our charity disco on April 8th raising funds for Headway, together with our current running Easter egg raffle for the children's hospital, on April 16th a team in the Monster Race 2016 and on May 7th a team of Ploddering Play2Givers will again plod on round the Oxford Uni Parks in the annual Oxford 5k Fun Run, and in July a mens football tournament which entries are now open to 6 a side teams.

Lee has been a wonderful supporter to Play2Give since late 2014 when he learnt of us through the supermarket choosing P2G as their charity of the year during 2014-2015.  Lee has done Movember, to a 1000km sponsored walk over 10 weeks and walked six hours from Didcot to the Children's Hospital dressed as Santa with a sack full of gifts all to raise funds accumulating over £1,000.
