Charity Celebratory Night 2012

Play2Give celebrated a very special birthday in September, 2012 when it partied the evening away with a celebratory charity night. This took place at Abingdon United Football & Social Club.
Organisers of the evening, and fellow Play2Give supporters and friends, Alison Stone and Alison Russell, presented Andrew with a surprise birthday cake marking the 5th birthday of Play2Give. It was five years ago that Andrew set up Play2Give in September 2007, with the help of his committee of friends. Andrew is pictured with the two Alison’s at the packed-out evening.
The night was a fantastic success, and with musical entertainment coming from Oxford-based singer-songwriters, Adam Barnes and Simon Batten, who both provided acoustic sets on guitars, disco and karaoke and a finger buffet, the crowd came out in force to support Play2Give to add to an amazing year of fund raising that was 2012.
Over £510 was raised in proceedings on the night through entry and raffle tickets alone, which saw around 30 prizes donated in total for the grand raffle draw.
The celebratory party helped aid three local charities: the Oxford Children’s Hospital; Footsteps helping further the fund raising fund for Sienna Steptoe from Abingdon, whose parents need to raise money to enable Sienna to receive intensive innovative physiotherapy at the centre, and Bone Cancer Research funds in memory and inspiration of the late Alex Lewis from Brightwell-cum-Sotwell. Like Andrew, Alex, was a former St Birinus School student, but sadly Alex died in his brave fight against the illness in February 2011, aged 22. Alex married his sweetheart Ali in a poignant but moving ceremony in front of close family and friends just a few days before. His life was documented in a special BBC3 documentary 'Alex: A Life Fast Forward' in July, 2011.
All three charities received £170 each. This makes Play2Give's fund raising total over 5 years to over £17,190 for these and many other charities - including over £13,000 of that for the Oxford Children's Hospital.
Andrew began fund raising at 14 whilst at school and enlisted the aid of then fellow school-friends and teachers to raise money. Since then, he has gone onto raise over £28,000 for the Children's Hospital over nearly 10 years (as of September 2012).
It is hoped to repeat another Play2Give fundraising evening in 2013 or 2014!
