Christmas Friends 2018

Picture
We are not just about raising money and awareness for our charities all year round, but we also like to help in other ways too, and the season of goodwill, Christmas, is no different!

Here at Play2Give, we as a team are always looking at more ways to help the local community, so we are excited to announce the return for a second year running of our 'Christmas Friends' Appeal - an idea, which we ran for the first time in 2017, as an addition to our busy Christmas schedule: our heartwarming Play2Give Christmas Friends project - all about helping the elderly in Didcot!

2017 Christmas Friends

We have a busy festive season ahead, again, with our fourth annual successful 'Sleigh2Give' appeal, a stall at the Didcot Street Fair on November 29th, our next family Christmas party on November 24th, and we intend to end our 2018 fundraising year in style with a New Year's Eve bash at Didcot's Boundary Park.
It is certain that we are not going to go short of company!
After all, Christmas brings out the best in people and is a time for giving, more so than any other time of the year.

However, we know that not everyone is so fortunate for Christmas time:

Although we bring cheer, joy and smiles to the youngest of people each festive season at our local children's hospital through the donations of gifts we receive through our Sleigh2Give campaign, we recognise there are older people who struggle to get out and about, for example in icy weather, who risk feeling isolated.

We think it is completely unfair that older people should have to feel that way at Christmas time, so we're putting together a team of volunteers to provide company to lonely pensioners (65+) this Christmas. Our volunteers will stop by with a small Christmas gift, offer to make a cup of tea, and spend a while just chatting with someone who perhaps doesn't get much of an opportunity to chat.

Prior to conducting visits, all our volunteers will be given a training guide. Furthermore, we know there are lots of scams out there and we want to protect people from imposters, so when you book a visit, we will provide you with an unique code. If we do not, please let us know ASAP.  Our volunteer will know that code as proof of identity. We can also arrange for our volunteer to give a call 30 minutes before arriving.
*Due to certain constraints, this is limited to the Didcot area*

How can you help?

There are two main ways you can help us with this exciting new initiative:-

  1. (1) Donate gifts for the pensioners. We're looking for little gifts to hand out. Boxes of biscuits or chocolate, in particular, would be much appreciated.
  2. If you would like to donate, please contact us, opposite, or through our Facebook page. We can, however, only hand out sealed food products - and in date, of course!
  3. If we receive more donations than required, we will donate the surplus to Didcot Food Bank so it doesn't go to waste.
  4. (2) Let people know what we're doing. If you have an elderly relative or neighbour, ask them if they'd like us to pop by and then contact us.  Unfortunately, older people are the hardest people to reach so without your help, many will not even hear about us!
  5. (3) Offer to help volunteer for this scheme. E-mail Matt by filling in the contact form, opposite.

Thank you for all your continued support to us as a fundraising organisation and our many events and campaigns.
