Prime Minister's Points of Light Award

Prime Minister recognises Andrew as an outstanding individual volunteer!
Andrew has been fundraising tirelessly for two decades - and now he's received praise from our very own Prime Minister in recognition of his hard work and dedication as an individual making a positive change and inspiring others in his community.
Andy found out in an email from Downing Street's Office for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport two days before Christmas Day 2019 that Boris Johnson was bestowing praise upon Andy with a prestigious Prime Minister's Points of Light Award.
Following a nomination made by our community officer, Matthew Norris, the Prime Minister has acknowledged Andy's invaluable work as an inspirational volunteer and was announced on 3rd January 2020 as the UK's 1290th recipient of the Points of Light Award.
Andy was invited to meet his local MP, David Johnston, at Parliament and to be presented with his award - also great recognition to Play2Give, the fundraising organisation that Andy proudly founded in September 2007.

In a personal hand-signed letter to Andrew, the PM wrote:
'I am lost in admiration for remarkable people like yourself who freely give up your time to improve the lives of others.
'I know you do this with no thought of praise or reward, but allow me to offer my own recognition of how your fundraising over the past 18 years, in tribute to the treatment you received as a child born with a brain injury, has transformed services at Oxford Children's Hospital and supported causes throughout the county.
'Your service exemplifies the great British spirit of generosity and philanthropy which brings out the best in us all.
'On behalf of the whole country, thank you!'

"Born with a brain injury, Andrew underwent surgery as a child at Oxford Children's Hospital. Inspired by the hospital care and treatment he received, he began fundraising for Oxford Children's Hospital in 2003, firstly as a St Birinus Schoolboy through to a football charity tournament which kick-started his organisation. In 2007 he founded 'Play2Give' to further transform lives throughout Oxfordshire. In 2016, Andrew succeeded in raising £40,000 for a single patient room for teenage patients at Oxford Children's Hospital; and he has since continued to actively fundraise for children, health and disability charities through a wide number of events, despite living with a brain injury. In 2017 he received a 'British Citizen Award' and has since become an Ambassador for them. More recently (2019) he was a regional runner-up in the ITV Meridian region as a Finalist for the 'ITV Fundraiser Pride of Britain' Award. His organisation continues to grow, with over 30 volunteers supporting his charitable giving.

MP for Wantage and Didcot, David Johnston, added:
"I'm delighted that Andrew Baker's hard work on behalf of many local charities has been recognised. Andrew is an inspiring example of how someone who refused to let a disadvantage they were born with hold them back and he has worked tirelessly to give back to the local community, achieving more already than most of us will. It is wonderful that his work has been recognised by the Prime Minister in this way." Since inviting and meeting Andy at Parliament at the end of January 2020 David was honoured and accepted the invitation to become a Patron of our fundraising organisation - thank you David! |
