Sainsbury's Didcot Grand £4k
Cheque Presentation - July 2015 - Oxford Children's Hospital
Sainsbury's Didcot initiated a super year of fundraising and awareness for Play2Give, after the store chose us as their local charity partner of the year.
In July 2014, the supermarket chose to support us for 12 months and it was an active one indeed! Colleagues did so much to raise funds and really got enthused behind the cause, and through the support of customers too in-store, it was a phenomenal year with the store raising the most amount of money that they had ever raised in the history of their support for a local chosen charity of the year!
A record total of £4,310.64 was the grand result of 12 months hard fundraising, and with collection tills at all checkouts for customers to donate spare changes, there were many other fundraising endeavours making up an action-packed year of money raising! Highlights included a football match held last September as the first fundraiser, which saw a team of Sainsbury's staff contest a Play2Give team but lost 20-1 to Play2Give Allstars, to ghoulish Halloween fundraising, a raffle at the staff Christmas party, to a sponsored stroll in February which raised over £940, to face painting in store, nightshift's Lee Crook undertaking 'Movember' in November and a 1000km sponsored walk over 10 weeks to three of the chaps on counters being head shaved on a busy Saturday afternoon in April to much more!
The store had never raised as much money over the years as they have for Play2Give. Each July each Sainsbury's supermarket across the country chose a local charity that they feel they can work best with to raise funds and awareness. We were ecstatic to be chosen, and the result of having been part of a record breaking achievement for the supermarket's community support! A huge reason behind the success was due to the 'passion' of Andrew, according to Veronica Dallas, PR Ambassador, and his 'inspirational personal motivation' for supporting the hospital!
On July 14th 2015 representatives from the store - Deputy Manager Alex Falconer, PR Ambassador and Store Trainer, Veronica Dallas, and team leaders Luke Norris and Andrea Smith, together with our Andrew (who also now works at the store) visited the Children's Hospital for a tour of Melanie's Ward and to present Andrew with their grand cheque for the year, which was covered by the Oxford Mail, Didcot Herald and That's Oxford TV.
Melanie's Ward is the ward that Play2Give will be having its very own sponsored room, at a cost of £40,000. Once we have smashed the £40,000 to name The Play2Give Room, a plaque will be in situ on the named room in tribute to all of P2G's efforts!
