What another incredible year 2022 was!
A jam packed year that was full of events and fundraising activities and all raising over £22,000 – a truly phenomenal amount of money and in the current economic climate.
And, the fact we celebrated our 15th Birthday last year so to raise over £22k and the most amount of funds in our history was just extra special.
And, helping to make our 15th year spectacular was the return of the event which started life for our charity off, our football tournament, which returned by an eagerly anticipated wait after a 5-year absence.
And what a beautiful day of footballing fun it was and on the hottest ever football tournament in our years, as it was unbearable heat but the scorching temperatures didn’t deter our 16 superb teams vying it out on the football pitches in an aim to be crowned champions.
Taking place at the fantastic venue of Wallingford Sports Park who kindly put on a BBQ and made sure no one’s thirsts went dry by providing the bar, saw pitch side face painting, children’s soccer, cycling activities, some stalls and a coconut shy.
We ran a raffle with some fantastic prizes thanks to lots of generous Oxfordshire companies and individuals.
From a Didcot army regiment, to a team of barbers, to the local boxing academy, squads made up of mates including a group of Didcot dads, to local businesses and even our very own P2G Heroes FC, we had a superb 16 compete, put their best feet forward and helped to score plenty of goals in one – and all to help some of our children, health and disability causes.
The 11th football tournament helped to net in over £2,056 with Oxford Children’s Hospital, SSNAP and Headway Oxfordshire all benefiting from £685.50 each!
The champions were ADT Decorating in a thrilling nail-biting final against a Didcot 11EOD regiment squad and the celebrations truly was FA Cup style with the champagne cork popped and the bubbles flowing.
Thank you to James Gesner Estate Agents for kindly sponsoring the medals. They looked incredible, and to all of our stalls on the day, to all of our activity providers Cleal’s Wheels, SupaStrikers Oxfordshire, Fairytale Face Paints & Body Art, Emma’s Glitter Tattoos and to our lifelong friends Hospital Radio Cherwell for providing the sound and PA bringing the atmosphere alive.
Plans are already underway for this year’s P2G football tournament, and we are currently finalising the entry forms. Team entries will open shortly for this year’s event, which will take place on Sunday, July 9th.
