Didcot 26’s football team braving the shave for Play2Give ⚽️🪒

Published: 25th May 2025

One football tournament team is going one step ahead and the extra mile to raise Play2Give funds this July with the big shave 🪒👩‍🦲

Teams are coming in for this year’s 14th football tournament, which we are holding this year on Sunday July 13th at Wallingford Sports Park . From businesses to teams of friends and even squads from other local charities, anyone aged 18 and over can take part. On the day, there will also be some inflatables on the side along with face painting and glitter artist, a raffle and tombola as well as barbecue and the bar run by the sports park. John’s Whippy ice cream van will be popping along too, with a donation from sales added into the coffers.

And, one of the teams signed up and ready to take part and boost the coffers of our charity helping us in changing, transforming and saving lives including young patients at Oxford Children’s Hospital are the Didcot 26’s, a group of guys from Didcot playing for fun and fitness.

Alex Denham, who works at DJMatthews Mot,Service & Repair Centre,Didcot., his dad and other team players will be going one step further in their fundraising effort towards this year’s event funds by braving the shave.

They have set an ambitious target of £250 to raise collectively, and for Alex he knows just how the services at the Oxford Children’s Hospital is, as a dad whose experienced first-hand the care they provide. Along with Courtnay Denham Photography, Courtnay who joined us as a volunteer last summer, and captures pictures for many of our events including this event, their daughter was diagnosed with a heart condition when Courtnay was just 20 weeks pregnant, and the family pay regular visits to the hospital’s paediatric cardiology team, along with other areas of the hospital. So giving back to the hospital Oxford Hospitals Charity that supports Mia-Rose means so much to Alex and Courtnay.

So Alex, and his other willing volunteers, are going one step further and have decided to brave the shave as part of their teams fundraising it is really heartfelt and for Alex personally sacrificing his locks for a local charity that means so much to him is truly special. There are whispers that Alex might bleach his buzzcut post shave for extra funds.
