£5,323 to Sobell House to fund a specialist end of life ambulance service

Thanks to everyone who supported the incredible work in 2024 of our charity, £5,323 of last year’s funds raised, through events like our annual football tournament, gala ball and Christmas markets alongside activities like tombolas and raffles, is benefiting Sobell House Hospice, in helping to fund a specialist ambulance, a special ambulance providing urgent, specialist transportation for patients receiving end-of-life care, so that for those in the final stage of life, every precious moment will count.

The “Extra Mile” Appeal was launched by the hospice, based on the Churchill Hospital site in Oxford, last month and thanks to our recent donation from our 2024 funds, we have provided £5,323 to help fund this special project which is going to change and transform lives, which is what P2G is about.

This specialist ambulance, which we are very proud to help fund, will ensure that this critical service, and life-saving, vehicle will be available to those patients who urgently need it 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. “It is much more than just a vehicle transporting patients”, Sobell says “that when someone is dying, there is only one chance to get things right for them, and their loved ones”.

Upon delivering around 205 Easter eggs with P2G’s bunny to the hospice (April 15), which all eggs was shared amongst the amazing patients, courageous families and Sobell staff from doctors to nurses, it was a pleasure to be able to showcase a giant cheque on behalf of everyone at our charity, for the £5,323 donation.

Since late 2020, in total, Play2Give has raised over £7,230 for Sobell in the memory of late supporter, Angela – who many of you will of have heard of or known in person – who remains in the heart of our charity, and of which a special volunteers award was initiated in 2022 in Angela’s memory and is awarded annually at the Play2Give Balls, which last year’s 2024 trophy was won by Chloe Boyne for five dedicated years, as a volunteer and supporter.

Angela would be very proud from above to know that Play2Give, the charity that she held so dear in her heart of which she was always contributing every penny to in her final few years, is funding something for the hospice so special and meaningful, as a way to say “thank you”, for the wonderful end of life palliative nursing she received at home in her last few weeks.

Funds in 2023 that we raised for the hospice went towards the refurbishment of one of the family rooms, for which the revamp is under way, and again a proud way for us to be making a lasting difference to hospice patients and families.

Sobell means a lot to many of our charity team members, and to so many of our supporters who have been personally touched by or experienced this very special hospice.

Our Night at the Oscars Ball on Saturday, October 11th at Milton Hill House is a chance for the community and our charity trustees, volunteers and supporters and sponsors, to come together dressed to the nines for a fantastic night of dining, fun, fundraising and dancing, to help us in changing, transforming and saving lives and supporting such incredible places like Sobell, through the funds the annual gala occasion generates. This event always sells out, the past five have been a blast, so do get your seats or tables before they run out. This year’s sixth occasion will be celebrating our achievement in raising a landmark £30,000 over a decade for Oxford Head Injury Services
