Play2Give dynamic duo shortlisted in Didcot Town Community Awards

Published: 31st January 2025

Following our earlier posts, we have more reason for celebration when we learnt late last week that two more of our wonderful volunteers are nominees in the Didcot Town Council Awards which takes place in March.

Please give your applause and congratulations to Dave and Linda who are shortlisted in the John Eldridge Award for Voluntary Service.

Both have been recognised and put forward to the shortlist by the town council for all of their work with Play2Give.

Our dynamic and amazing duo have been a huge part as volunteers with our charity for almost 10 years. They are regular and familiar faces to the community on stalls such as our annual stand at the Harwell Feast, and are involved behind the scenes from sorting and sifting with Andy through thousands of toy and gifts donations for #Sleigh2Give, at our lock up, to Linda having been our hopping mad Easter bunny 🐰 for two years, and are always seen at many of our events including folding raffle tickets, raffle draws, P2G shopping with Andy, pick ups and drop offs and labelling tombola prizes and wrapping raffle hampers and more.

Last April, Linda suffered a massive heart attack and we are so thankful she came through and survived, even though her life has been changed.

These two come rain, freezing cold or shine are familiar members of our team. In March they’ll be taking part, for the first time, as part of our annual P2G Heroes team, in the Oxford Hospitals Charity OX5RUN at Blenheim Palace to give back to the Children’s Hospital.

In March 2022 they were both the very first winners of our inaugural volunteer award, which is presented annually at our gala balls, and celebrates volunteers or supporters who go above and beyond for P2G.

Their nomination in the John Eldridge Award for their past decade of work with our charity is well deserved and it’s lovely they’ve been recognised by our community.

They are in contention in the John Eldridge Award for Voluntary Service, amongst other nominees, alongside Andy but there’ll be no fisticuffs at dawn as all three do it all for the love and joy of making life better for others and children in hospital and with disabilities.

We are immensely proud of them and all of the P2G nominees who are flying the flag for our charity on March 15th when the awards evening takes place and that their efforts to make a difference are appreciated.

The awards evening will be hosted by the Didcot Mayor where various awards will be presented and the winners announced.

Whatever the result both Dave and Linda are winners in our eyes as are all of the community heroes being recognised and we look forward to seeing the full shortlist announced online soon.
