Play2Give Heroes take on OX5RUN for Oxford Children’s Hospital

Published: 16th March 2025

Next Sunday it’s the Oxford Hospitals Charity OX5RUN – the annual five mile fun run at Blenheim Palace which raises funds for the Children’s Hospital

The fun run, organised by Oxford Hospitals Charity and now in its 23rd year, raises thousands of pounds each year for the hospital and is one of our favourite events to take part in, as part of our support.

This year we have an amazing 10-team

Two taking part for the very first time as part of our Play2Give Heroes will be the dynamic duo Dave and Linda who will be walking it round.

Dave and Linda are joining other members of the Latter family to celebrate their eldest grandson, Ryan having had 16 years of care from the hospital, before he transitions into adult care. Ryan was born with multiple problems with his condition and disabilities and attends Viking House, a specialist disability centre, in Oxford for respite. Ryan has been in various areas of the Oxford hospitals including Children’s critical care, intensive care, neonatal care and Tom’s Ward and Bellhouse Drayson Ward and is no stranger to hospital life and keeping his mum, Emma – who is also taking part next week and will be pushing Ryan in his wheelchair round the course – on her toes and the bustle of life at the hospital.

So far, Dave and Linda, and for Linda she is a wonder woman as she is approaching the one year mark since she survived a massive heart attack, and spent time being cared for in the Oxford Heart Unit, so another great reason to be giving back.

Together, the dynamic duo, who was shortlisted this year for the John Eldridge Award for Voluntary Service in the Didcot Town Council Awards, together have raised over £100 already between them, and all the money Play2Give Heroes raise – so far the team total, with gift aid – comes to over £300! helps to fund cutting edge medical equipment, specialist staff to calm, distract and support young patients and create more welcoming and comfortable hospital spaces.

Next Sunday hundreds will descend on beautiful Blenheim to raise big smiles by five miles, and at P2G we have taken part for many years, and between our super squad of ten, and over the years we have helped the OX5RUN raised more than £1million since the event began in 2002.

Every donation will mean so much, to us as a team, and to all the young patients whose lives will be transformed and changed, which is what P2G’s work is all about

Good luck to Dave and Linda and all of our incredible superheroes next week, they have got this 🦸‍♂️🦸‍♀️✨️
