Record breaking year of fundraising adds over 5k for children’s hospital

Published: 7th April 2023

We are delighted that, last year, in our milestone fifteenth year as a charity, we raised over £22,000 overall – and all thanks to the incredible community and supporters who made it all possible.

And today, we are excited to reveal that, as part of our grand anniversary total, over £5,300 solely benefited the Oxford Children’s Hospital’s Charity.

We are pleased to share this lovely letter and certificate that we received recently from our friends at the Oxford Hospitals Charity and, with an update on how the funds we raised last year with your help, helped to make to the lives of young patients, families, and staff at the children’s hospital and children’s services across the Oxford University Hospitals Trust.

‘Dear Andy and the extraordinary Play2Give Team,

Please accept a huge thank you from us for raising £5310.87 in 2022 for Oxford Children’s Hospital. Supporting our patients and the NHS staff, and helping provide the best equipment in our hospitals, is at the heart of everything we do. With your help, we can offer so much more, and your kindness is already making a difference.

‘Thanks to supporters like you, we can continue to fund karate lessons for children with chronic pain conditions, who find exercising and joining in with games far more challenging than their peers. The classes are completely tailored, allowing wheelchair-users and children who struggle to use their limbs to join in. These lessons improve their physical and mental health, boost their confidence and teaches them techniques that will be with them for life. They have been described as the ‘highlight of the week’ by chronic pain therapists and parents.’

In 2022, thanks to our hard raised funds and tireless efforts to contribute to the Children’s Hospital through our events and activities, we were also able to help fund:

  • Play specialists calming children before operations and procedures to make the process less distressing.
  • A new EEG machine costing £55,000 for the Paediatric Critical Care Unit enabling critically ill children from all across the UK to receive the very best care at the JR.
  • State of the art technology
  • Refurbished hospital areas
  • Medical research into childhood illnesses

So, a very huge thank you to each and every person who donated, had a go on our tombolas and raffles, brought cakes on bake sales, attended events, took on sponsored challenges including fun runs, and helped organise our events or donated spare cash, and in so many other ways. Every day Play2Give’s work is helping in changing, transforming and saving lives of young hospital patients, families and the incredible NHS staff.

This year, we hope that with our continued funds we provide to children’s services across the Oxford University Hospitals we can help towards funding a revamp of four relatives bedrooms in the PCCU, a new extra-ventricular drainage system in Paediatric Neurosurgery, Nippy 4 ventilators, and a special echocardiogram, as well as toys and games at Christmas through our ninth Sleigh2Give appeal.

Thank you for helping to make our anniversary 15th year in 2022 so special for us as a charity and for enabling us to raise such an incredible total of over £5,310 which is already touching the lives of all those card for and helped by the Oxford Children’s Hospital.
