What an exciting past week it has been, as the transformation of a dull and drab room at Oxford Head Injury Services centre into a special room of relaxation and tranquility has begun
At Play2Give, thanks to our fantastic community, supporters and volunteers, every year we are continually changing, transforming, and saving lives through our amazing work and we definitely will be doing just that in changing and transforming lives for brain injured service users, for many years to come, thanks to our latest contribution.
Thanks to the wonderful support we received in 2024 and over £6,615 provided to Oxford Head Injury Services through our many events and fundraising activities last year, we are able to make a life-changing and positive change to impact brain injury warriors with the revamp and refurbishment of a dedicated and much-needed relaxation and sensory room.
Thanks to £3,210 of funds, the room, which is going to be named ‘Andy’s Room’ as a thank you and tribute from the brain injury support organisation, to Andy Baker and our achievement of raising an incredible £30k across a decade, will transform a dreary and dull space into a much needed room full of relaxation and tranquility for a lifetime, and all made possible by our charity.
Last Friday saw a team of corporate volunteers from Elsevier do some jobs for the brain injury centre including getting hands on in the accessible garden to painting the walls (and what a great job they did too) for Andy’s Room – and what a transformation already. We are incredibly excited as the first stage of this big project takes shape and the next step.
We are incredibly excited as the first stage of this big project takes shape and the next step will see new flooring go down in the room, as part of a general flooring refit of the whole activity and rehabilitation centre. We’ve also helped to fund the purchase of brand new cosier and more personal feel tables for the centre and new art cupboards with draws which will all be in place soon.
Elsevier was one of many companies who donated to our record-breaking fifth Easter egg appeal this year, so it is fitting that dedicated volunteers from the Oxford-based company got stuck in to renovate an area which is going to make a big difference for the future.
The next step of the project once the flooring has gone down is sourcing and purchasing furniture including cosy sofa, chairs, coffee table and bookcase and furnishings for the room, before all the added extras including decorations and artwork including inspiring and uplifting wall murals is added, before the room is ready and unveiled later in the year.
Feeling inspired? Our Oscars-themed gala ball on October 11th at Milton Hill House will be another spectacular occasion, and will also be officially marking the celebration of our lifetime £30k raised for Oxford Head Injury Services across a decade, as many of the OHIS charity staff and trustees will be in attendance to enjoy our most glitiziest of nights. There are still seats and limited tables available for Play2Give’s Night at the Oscars Ball 2025 so please do not delay and secure your places, as our sixth ball is no doubt going to be another sell-out, if previous years are anything to go by. For just £65 per person, and limited tables up to 12 available, our guests will be treated to a red carpet reception like stars, with drink on arrival, entertainment including Sparky & Sprite and Luland Magic, 3-course meal, photobooth, and disco. There will also be bar (with 10% of all takings made donated back from the hotel) along with raffle and auction.
Keep posted to our social media channels for updates on the progress and development of this very exciting room project, and how one room full of peace, relaxation and sensory feeling, will transform the lives of those with brain injuries whose impacted everyday by the amazing work of the OHIS heroes that help them fulfil their lives.
