80s and 90s Spinathon for Play2Give

Published: 18th November 2016

On Saturday November 26th the Willowbrook Leisure Centre in Didcot will be hosting a fun-filled Spinathon to raise money for Play2Give.

The 4-hour long endurance spinning bike challenge will see competitors take part in one hour sessions over four hours starting from 9.15am to raise money for Play2Give’s appeal for the Oxford Children’s Hospital and Headway Oxfordshire charities.

As part of the event there will be an 80s and 90s theme fancy dress giving participants the option to dress up and raise some laughs along the way, whilst pedalling along fast mad and hard to 90s music.

A time for colourful tracksuits, the Zubaz pants, Air Jordans and wide leg pants, that tie a hoodie round the waists and baseball caps flipped back for two of the best decades.  Last year Willowbrook, part of Soll Leisure, held a Superheroes Spinathon for Play2Give and raised over £380 for the cause.

Registrations are open, and places can be booked at £5 a session (or £20 for all four), by calling the centre on Bowmont Water, on 01235 812058, emailing info@soll-leisure.co.uk or by calling in to the centre.

The money raised for Play2Give will support the Oxford Children’s Hospital tenth anniversary £2m appeal to fund 60 new family rooms. Proceeds donated by the Didcot BACA-Award winning fundraising organisation to Headway Oxfordshire will support the Kennington brain-injury charity’s appeal for the county’s first ever Neurological Physiotherapy Gym. The specialised gym, which will be based at the Kennington centre, will help create this state of the art facility with equipment specially designed for people with brain injuries and expert physiotherapy equipment close to home.

Play2Give’s founder Andrew Baker, 28, from Didcot was born with a brain injury and receives weekly rehabilitation support from Headway, whom he has been under since the age of 23.  Andrew is a former Children’s Hospital patient who underwent major brain surgery aged 12. He has been raising money for the hospital since the age of 14.

Play2Give has gone on to donate over £52,360 since 2007.
